Yoga For Healthy Lower Backs
As a trainee teacher for the YHLB institute I will endeavor to run another program in the near future at Thorpe Astley Community Center. Watch this space.
Alison Trewhela an Iyengar and British Wheel of Yoga teacher who was part of the original team that designed this 12 wk course for people with Lower Back pain whom had never practiced yoga before.
This is an evidence based programme that aims to teach yoga to support self management of lower back pain. The original course was part of a large study by the Dept of Health Sciences at the University of York and funded by Arthritis Research UK. More information can be found at http://www.yogaforbacks.co.uk
The programme comprises of 12 x 75 minute classes of easy foundational yoga poses and relaxation. Props such as pillows blocks blankets and belts are used to aid effectiveness and ensure comfort. Each student will have their own student manual and CD for practicing at home in between classes. The course is educational too as it provides life long skills, a tool kit not just for when a painful episode strikes but is most successful as a preventative measure. Students become more active and improve the function of their backs and their whole body too.
Students are taught how to improve their posture alignment and their mental focus with relaxation techniques which can be practiced at home on a regular basis.
If you or someone you know would be interested in attending this course please get in touch asap. You contact me for more information via email, phone or the contact form/page.
